10 Foods You Should Never Put in the Freezer

Canned Foods

Liquid, typically when frozen tends to expand, which is why you’re told never to freeze water in a glass dish (unless it’s a freezer safe dish). This expansion could cause glass dishes to crack, even plastic and metal. This is why you should never freeze canned goods. The liquid inside will increase in volume and you might need to call the bomb squad following an explosion. Besides, there is no need to freeze canned goods, as they are already preserved and meant to have a pretty long shelf life.

Salad Greens

Certain vegetables, mostly leafy greens, and few others like cucumbers and radishes, that are high in water content must not be frozen, as they will lose their flavor and texture as they defrost and all the moisture comes out. If I’m going to have salad for lunch, it better not be a bland, soggy, limp mess!

Breadcrumbs

Just as most foods tend to lose moisture as they defrost, so do bread and breadcrumbs. They tend to go pasty and soft when they thaw, which means you won’t get the maximum crunch factor. It’s a better idea to freeze your meat or other food and crumb it later after you’ve defrosted it and given it a good pat with a clean kitchen towel.
