Tennis legend Billie Jean King is best known for winning the “Battle of the Sexes” tennis match against male-champion Bobby Riggs in 1973. Not only did this cement her name as one of the best female tennis players, but one of the best tennis players period. She was also notably the first prominent female athlete to come out as gay in 1981. Her name was added into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1987.
